I've been cooking today. Tomorrow is my Mom's annual 4th of July party, so I've been making baked beans for most of the day. I use the Ina Garten recipe from her Barefoot Contessa at Home cookbook. And while I was looking in the book this morning figuring out what ingredients I had to buy, I saw a very cool patriotic looking pavlova. I thought what better day to make this? So I wrote down all the ingredients, thinking if I got inspired I'd have the stuff. Well as luck would have it, Whole Foods had the pavlova made already! So I just added Ina's homemade whipped cream, fresh fruit, and Ina's triple raspberry sauce. This thing was YUM!!
And it really looks like way more work than it was, especially since I was able to just buy the merigue itself. When it was done I felt a little guilty that it was just Ana and I eating it. But I'll definitely be making this the next time I have company!
And taking these pictures I felt a little like a food stylist! Doesn't it look like it belongs in a magazine?
Anyway, tomorrow is my real "4th of July" since that's when I'm wearing red, white and blue and having bbq and Eloise will swim at the lake and we'll eat the beans that I made. And you can bet I'll be eating pavlova for breakfast! (I know it's cake, if it has fruit that's okay, right?) Happy 4th of July!
